For over ten years,  Smedley has created sculptures that ask questions  about the human relationship with tools.  She invents contraptions that function and perform tasks uniting the body with sculpture and landscape. She engages the tools in relation to body with ritualized actions that present visual explorations often about the absurdity of human struggles.  The camera acts as witness and participant.
